Willem II are two matches away from equalling an unwanted record after extending their winless league run to 28 games. The sequence comprises 22 defeats and six draws, leaving the Tilburg side within sight of the 30-match mark set by Helmond Sport across 1983 and 1984.

The run began in January 2025. Willem II failed to win any of their final 17 fixtures during the second half of that season and were subsequently relegated through the play-offs. They returned to the Eredivisie this summer, but the change in division has not produced an upturn in results.

Their poor start also led to the dismissal of head coach John Stegeman. Willem II then suffered a 6-1 Eredivisie defeat by SC Cambuur in Adrie Koster’s only match as interim coach. Jurgen Streppel’s return was followed by an even heavier setback, with PSV winning 7-0.

Willem II now face PEC Zwolle before visiting FC Twente on 22 November. Should they fail to win either match, they would draw level with the Helmond Sport record that has stood for 42 years.
