FC Volendam’s sharply contrasting home and away form continued with defeat at Almere City. After nine matches, Volendam have collected 12 points, winning every game on their own ground while losing each away fixture.

Coach Van de Looi felt the visitors deserved more from their latest trip. Speaking to ESPN after the match, in comments carried by VI, he said Volendam were the better side for long periods but failed to make enough of their promising situations. Their late push for a result also created space for Almere, whose approach centred on counter-attacks through quick wide players. Van de Looi nevertheless stressed that the performance itself had not been poor and described the loss as unfortunate.

Veerman offered a similar assessment, arguing that Volendam had controlled most of the contest but were punished for missing too many chances. He credited Almere for converting their sole first-half opportunity and acknowledged that taking such a chance was a quality in itself. However, he believed Volendam otherwise held the upper hand.

The ongoing away sequence remains a source of frustration, but Veerman took encouragement from the team’s development and the improvement from previous matches on the road. “This is the Volendam we want to see,” he said, as reported by VI. The next challenge, he added, is turning those stronger displays into points.
