Tolu and Wijndal shine as Ajax hit Midtjylland for six
Ajax moved back on course in the Conference League with an emphatic 6-1 away victory, inspired by Tolu Arokodare and Owen Wijndal.
Ajax recorded their biggest victory of the season on Thursday, beating FC Midtjylland 6-1 in Herning to claim a second successive Conference League win. Tolu Arokodare delivered two goals and an assist, while Owen Wijndal also scored during an influential display from left-back.
Arokodare put Míchel Sánchez’s side ahead in the ninth minute, but Friday Etim equalised for the Danish hosts before the half-hour mark. The contest shifted decisively when Midtjylland midfielder Kjell-Arik Wätjen collected two bookings within eight minutes and was sent off in the 43rd minute.
Ajax then exploited their numerical advantage after the interval. Arokodare restored the lead before setting up Wijndal, whose finish made it 3-1. Summer signing Marcos Leonardo later came off the bench to add another goal as the visitors turned their superiority into a commanding scoreline. Algemeen Dagblad, cited by FCUpdate, described Ajax’s second-half football as “dynamic and adventurous”, highlighting the movement and combinations behind the rout.
The result leaves Ajax with six points and a goal difference of plus six after three matches in the league phase, placing them 11th in the Conference League table at the time of reporting. They had previously lost 2-1 at Hajduk Split before responding with a 2-0 victory over Atalanta. Ajax return to Eredivisie action against FC Twente on Sunday.
