Summerville’s Panenka miss overshadows Al-Hilal victory
The Netherlands international struck the crossbar from the penalty spot but his side still completed a comfortable 3-0 win over Al Feiha.
Crysencio Summerville passed up an opportunity to score his first Al-Hilal goal when a Panenka penalty went wrong during Thursday’s Saudi Pro League visit to Al Feiha. With his side already leading 2-0, the Netherlands international attempted to lift the ball down the middle but struck the crossbar and sent his effort over.
Dutch referee Danny Makkelie had awarded the spot kick. Summerville’s miss ultimately had no effect on the result, as Al-Hilal completed a 3-0 victory and moved provisionally to the top of the Saudi Pro League. Defending champions Al-Nassr were not due to play their second fixture until Friday.
The 24-year-old is still waiting for his first goal or assist after three appearances for Al-Hilal. He did, however, make an impact on his debut by winning a penalty that was converted by Ruben Neves.
Summerville joined Al-Hilal from West Ham United this summer in a transfer worth almost €65 million. His bright early contribution has therefore not yet produced a direct goal involvement, and the failed Panenka represented a missed chance to open his account from the spot.
