Spanish media condemn Feyenoord fan behaviour in Barcelona

Feyenoord’s travelling support has come under criticism following Wednesday night’s Champions League visit to Barcelona. Spanish coverage focused on conduct in the away section, where almost 3,000 supporters from Rotterdam were present.

According to Voetbalzone, footage shared on social media after the game appeared to show a Feyenoord fan making a monkey gesture towards a Barcelona supporter. The supporter, named as Esia, expressed shock at being subjected to racist abuse during a football match.

Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo also condemned the wider behaviour of the visiting crowd. It reported that Feyenoord supporters repeatedly sang an insulting chant about Barça and threw numerous cups of beer towards home fans seated nearby. The paper said rain ponchos supplied during the ongoing Camp Nou renovation were also used as protection from the objects coming from the away section.

Describing the scenes as unacceptable, Mundo Deportivo called for action over the visiting supporters’ conduct. The report did not provide details of any official response from Feyenoord, Barcelona or UEFA, nor did it mention whether disciplinary proceedings had been opened.
