Sem Scheperman named new Heracles Almelo captain
The 24-year-old midfielder takes over the armband from Damon Mirani after Heracles involved the playing squad in the selection process.
Heracles Almelo have appointed Sem Scheperman as their captain for the new season. The 24-year-old midfielder succeeds central defender Damon Mirani and will first wear the armband in the match against VVV-Venlo.
Scheperman is entering his sixth consecutive season as part of the Heracles first-team squad. His appearance against VVV will be his 88th official match for the club, adding another milestone to the start of his captaincy.
The club said its players were invited to contribute actively to the selection process through both individual and group discussions. Those conversations resulted in Scheperman receiving the armband. Mirani remains part of the leadership group and will captain the side whenever Scheperman is unavailable, while experienced defender Mike te Wierik has been designated as the third captain.
Head coach Vincent Heilmann also confirmed his starting line-up for the VVV fixture. Fabian de Keijzer starts in goal, behind David Vicente Robles, Mirani, Mario Borac and Max Hauswirth. Scheperman is joined by Jeff Reine-Adélaïde, Tristan van Gilst and Chafik Abbas, with Jean-Paul N’Djoli and Manny Rodriguez completing the XI.
