Sander van der Eijk appointed referee for Ajax-PSV showdown
The 35-year-old will oversee his first Eredivisie meeting between two members of the Netherlands’ traditional top three.

Sander van der Eijk has been appointed to referee Saturday’s Eredivisie meeting between Ajax and PSV at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. It will be the first match of his career involving two clubs from the Netherlands’ traditional top three.
The 35-year-old has officiated in the Eredivisie since 2019 and has also represented the KNVB in European competition. For the game in Amsterdam, he will be assisted by Rens Bluemink and Sander de Groot, with Richard Martens serving as fourth official. Pol van Boekel has been selected as the video assistant referee.
Ajax against PSV is the season’s first contest between two of Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord. Kick-off is scheduled for 20:00 local time on Saturday. PSV will travel to Amsterdam sitting second in the table with ten points from four matches. Ajax have played one game fewer because of their European commitments and occupy fourth place with seven points.
AZ lead the Eredivisie after winning all four of their opening fixtures. The Alkmaar side visit Heerenveen at 14:30 on Sunday, when Jeroen Manschot will take charge. The weekend therefore gives Van der Eijk his first opportunity to handle one of the Dutch league’s highest-profile fixtures, with both Ajax and reigning champions PSV entering the game unbeaten in the opening weeks.
