Regeer earns glowing reviews after Werder Bremen debut
The Dutch midfielder was praised for bringing control and stability to Werder’s midfield, while a long-range effort almost produced a spectacular goal.
Dutch midfielder Regeer made an immediate impression on his Werder Bremen debut, receiving particularly strong praise from the regional German press. DeichStube awarded him a 1.5 under Germany’s grading system, in which one is the highest mark and six the lowest.
The outlet wrote that Regeer already appeared fully settled despite having spent only a few days at Werder. It highlighted his “robust and intelligent style of play” and credited him with adding stability to the side. Regeer and Ludovit Reis were also praised for keeping the centre of the pitch compact during the game.
Sky Deutschland focused on an ambitious attempt shortly after half-time. After winning possession, Regeer spotted Maarten Vandevoordt standing well away from his goal and tried to beat the Belgian goalkeeper from long range. Vandevoordt managed to reach the shot and divert it against the crossbar, denying the midfielder a memorable debut goal.
Regeer admitted afterwards that he was disappointed not to score from the opportunity. “It is a bit of a shame,” he said, as quoted by Voetbal International, after the goalkeeper had just managed to get a touch. Despite that frustration, Regeer said he had enjoyed the atmosphere inside the Weserstadion.
