PSV sign Ayoni Santos from Sparta Rotterdam on five-year deal
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder becomes PSV’s sixth addition of the transfer window after making his senior breakthrough at Sparta.
PSV have completed the signing of Ayoni Santos from Sparta Rotterdam. The 21-year-old has agreed a five-year contract in Eindhoven and will wear number 35, becoming PSV’s sixth new arrival of the transfer window.
Santos is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also operate from the left wing. He joined Sparta’s academy at the age of seven and broke into the club’s senior side last season. He departs Rotterdam with 32 first-team appearances, one goal and two assists.
PSV reached an agreement in principle with Sparta over the weekend before finalising the move. Santos told De Telegraaf that the closing stages had been “exciting days” as he waited for the transfer to be completed. He described himself as a quick player with strong dribbling, ball-winning ability and good awareness, while setting a long-term target of earning a starting place and winning trophies.
Director of football Earnest Stewart said PSV view Santos as a creative, dynamic player who is effective in one-on-one situations and brings the energy and intensity the club want. Stewart added that PSV believe the midfielder still has considerable scope to develop. Santos also made his senior international debut for Cape Verde earlier this year.
