PSV continued their Eredivisie campaign with a 2-1 away victory over Excelsior in the second round of fixtures. The champions were among five teams to collect wins across Friday and Saturday, although their margin was considerably tighter than those recorded by AZ and NEC.
AZ produced a 4-1 victory at FC Utrecht, while NEC returned from Willem II with the same scoreline. Sparta Rotterdam also won on the road, beating Telstar 3-1 in the opening match of the round. Fortuna Sittard completed the early set of results with a 3-1 home success against SC Cambuur.
Four matches were scheduled for Sunday. ADO Den Haag were due to host FC Groningen in the early kick-off, followed by Feyenoord against Go Ahead Eagles and FC Twente against PEC Zwolle. Ajax’s home meeting with SC Heerenveen was listed as the final fixture of the day.
FC Groningen named Elvis van der Laan for his first start ahead of the match in The Hague. Jacob Ondrejka and Márk Csinger were included among Groningen’s substitutes as two new additions to the bench. Both Groningen and ADO announced their line-ups before the 12.15 kick-off.
