PSV have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig to sign Lutsharel Geertruida on loan with an option to buy, according to VI. The defender is expected in Eindhoven for a medical after the clubs resolved the final details of the proposed move.
A permanent transfer was reportedly beyond PSV’s financial reach, prompting the Eredivisie champions to pursue a temporary deal. Geertruida had already agreed personal terms and is said to favour a team that plays attacking football, competes for trophies and can offer Champions League football.
The versatile defender, who can also operate in defensive midfield, has won 21 senior caps for the Netherlands. He was added to the Oranje squad for this summer’s World Cup after Jurriën Timber withdrew through injury, but he did not make an appearance at the tournament.
Geertruida would become PSV’s fourth new addition to the squad after Kodai Sano, Sven Mijnans and Filip Kostic. Goalkeeper Matej Kovar has also joined permanently following an earlier loan spell. VI adds that Ajax explored the possibility of signing Geertruida, but a move to Amsterdam was considered unacceptable by the former Feyenoord player and those around him because of his connection to the Rotterdam club.
