Youri Baas appears increasingly likely to remain at Ajax after the Amsterdam club rejected an offer from FC Porto. FCUpdate, citing Voetbal International, reports that Porto formally approached Ajax over the weekend but did not bid enough to secure the centre-back.

The uncertainty surrounding Baas affected his involvement on Sunday. Ajax coach Míchel Sánchez left him out of the starting line-up because of the transfer situation, with Dies Janse selected instead. Baas has already had to accept a substitute role more often this season despite being one of the club’s leading performers in previous campaigns.

According to the report, the left-footed defender would be open to leaving and Ajax are prepared to cooperate with a transfer at the right price. Porto’s proposal failed to meet that threshold, while Eintracht Frankfurt are also said to have Baas on their list of potential targets.

A late departure has not been completely ruled out, but the approaching transfer deadline makes a deal more difficult. Ajax technical director Jordi Cruijff is reportedly unlikely to approve a last-minute move unless another club meets the asking price, leaving Baas on course to stay in Amsterdam for now.
