Peter Bosz has moved Essiën Bassey back to Jong PSV after the defender spent the entire pre-season with the senior squad, according to Voetbalzone, citing Voetbal International. The 19-year-old is consequently expected to play in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie during the coming campaign.
Bassey’s future in Eindhoven remains uncertain. FC Twente and Sturm Graz previously approached PSV about the Netherlands youth international, but the club rejected their advances. PSV reportedly do not want to sell him, although the player is open to a transfer. His current contract runs until the summer of 2027, and the Eindhoven club have offered him an extension.
A departure could become possible if Bassey chooses not to accept that proposal. With only a year remaining on his existing deal, PSV would need to sell him this summer or during the winter window if they want to receive a transfer fee. Sturm Graz are said to remain interested and could offer the full-back Europa League football.
Bassey did feature for PSV in the Johan Cruijff Schaal, coming off the bench during their 4-0 defeat by AZ. For now, however, his return to the reserve side leaves his immediate role at the club in doubt while the transfer window remains open.
