Owen Wijndal revival sparks Oranje chants from Ajax supporters
The left-back continued his resurgence with a goal and an assist in Ajax’s 6-1 Conference League win over FC Midtjylland.

Owen Wijndal’s return to prominence at Ajax gathered further momentum during Thursday’s 6-1 Conference League victory away to FC Midtjylland. The left-back contributed a goal and an assist, prompting the travelling supporters to chant for his return to the Netherlands squad.
Wijndal had appeared close to leaving Amsterdam in the summer after falling down the pecking order. Ajax added Caio Henrique and Jofre Torrents following Jorrel Hato’s move to Chelsea, but no transfer materialised for Wijndal. He has since established himself as a regular under Míchel Sánchez and also impressed in the recent visit to FC Groningen.
Analyst Marciano Vink praised the defender’s persistence on Voetbalpraat, noting that Wijndal had trained with Jong Ajax while trying to maintain his fitness. Vink highlighted the energy now being supplied by a player whose opportunities had previously become limited.
Wijndal last represented the Netherlands in 2021, according to Voetbalzone. His Ajax contract is in its final year, and the 26-year-old has not yet heard from the club about a possible extension. He has, however, indicated that he would be open to remaining in Amsterdam beyond the end of the current deal.
