Ouazane has confirmed that he wants to represent Morocco internationally as the Ajax academy prospect continues his push for a permanent first-team role. Morocco coach Mohamed Ouahbi watched him at the Johan Cruijff Arena on Thursday, although the player said they had not yet spoken.

The youngster discussed his international future with his parents and is satisfied with the decision. “My goal is to play for Morocco,” Ouazane told Voetbal International, adding that Ouahbi’s presence was meaningful because his involvement with the country began at Under-15 level.

At club level, Ouazane is receiving opportunities on the left wing following Mika Godts’ sale to Paris Saint-Germain and Ajax’s failure so far to bring in a replacement. The attacking midfielder prefers a central role, but competition from Julian Brandt and Oscar Gloukh has encouraged him to embrace minutes out wide. He particularly enjoyed combining with Brandt after half-time on Thursday. Coach Míchel has asked him to add more runs in behind to his game.

Ouazane has trained with the senior squad since pre-season but remains officially attached to Jong Ajax. He still uses the reserve-team dressing room and hopes his recent playing time will help him earn a full promotion. The midfielder believes those minutes show he is moving in the right direction, but accepts that he must work to claim a permanent place among the first-team group.
