NEC reportedly close to signing Hoffenheim midfielder Dennis Geiger

NEC are reportedly set to sign Dennis Geiger from Hoffenheim on a free transfer. FCUpdate, citing Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, says the midfielder’s contract with the Bundesliga club has been terminated and that he is due to undergo a medical in Nijmegen on Friday.
A two-year agreement running until mid-2028 is said to be ready for the 28-year-old. Voetbal International reports that Geiger has travelled to Nijmegen to complete the move, with Kicker, Sky Sport Deutschland and BILD also carrying news of the expected transfer. Neither club has confirmed the deal in the supplied reporting.
Geiger came through Hoffenheim’s academy and made 147 competitive appearances for the club. He spent last season on loan at Scottish side Aberdeen before returning to Germany this summer. The midfielder has not played since 17 May because of an injury which, according to VI, has not yet fully cleared.
A move would reunite Geiger with NEC coach Dick Schreuder. Schreuder worked as an assistant at Hoffenheim under his brother Alfred during the 2019/20 season and therefore already knows the player. Completion remains dependent on Geiger passing the medical and avoiding complications during the final stages of the proposed transfer.
