NEC bring in Borussia Dortmund left-back Almugera Kabar on loan
The 20-year-old defender adds depth to Dick Schreuder’s squad ahead of the Champions League tie against Bodø/Glimt.
NEC Nijmegen have taken Almugera Kabar on loan from Borussia Dortmund, giving head coach Dick Schreuder another defensive option. The 20-year-old left-back, who has German and Libyan roots, will wear the number 66 shirt at his new club.
Kabar has developed through several Dortmund youth sides and has also made six appearances for the German club’s first team. NEC technical director Carlos Aalbers said the defender’s profile suits the team’s playing style, highlighting his physical attributes and dynamism after his education at Dortmund.
The move follows Schreuder’s recent concerns about the depth of his defence. Philippe Sandler has been ruled out of NEC’s two-legged Champions League meeting with Bodø/Glimt, while fellow new arrival Perr Schuurs is not yet fit. Kabar and Gabriel Brás, who has joined on loan from FC Porto, provide the coach with further alternatives at the back.
NEC still have time to add Kabar to their European squad. The Nijmegen club can register their latest signing for the Champions League until one day before the opening match against Bodø/Glimt.
