Nassoh scores twice but suffers repeated shoulder injury in NAC defeat
NAC captain Mohamed Nassoh played through three shoulder dislocations during a painful 4-2 loss, while Leo Greiml’s first-half dismissal left Carl Hoefkens frustrated.
Mohamed Nassoh endured an extraordinary and painful evening as NAC Breda fell to a 4-2 defeat. The captain scored both of his side’s goals but revealed afterwards that his shoulder had come out of its socket three times during the match.
The first incident occurred before half-time, yet Nassoh chose to continue despite being in visible discomfort. He told ESPN, in comments reported by VI, that he could have gone off immediately but did not want to abandon teammates who needed him. By the time the shoulder dislocated for a second time, NAC had already used all five substitutions.
NAC’s task had also become significantly harder in the 37th minute, when Leo Greiml was shown a red card. It was the defender’s fourth dismissal since joining the club. Nassoh said the sending-off compounded problems caused by avoidable goals and repeated individual mistakes.
Head coach Carl Hoefkens was particularly critical of the red card and the manner of the goals conceded. While acknowledging Greiml’s commitment, he said the defender had made the wrong decision and needed to act more intelligently. Hoefkens nevertheless declined to single out other players publicly. He also understood the anger of the travelling supporters, who voiced their frustration after the final whistle, saying that fans ultimately expect results regardless of whether their team finishes with ten or nine players.
