NAC Street League returns across four Dutch cities

NAC Breda’s Street League is returning this school year, with the club’s community arm running activities in and around schools in Breda, Oosterhout, Geertruidenberg and Middelburg. Pupils will play football, attend social workshops and undertake projects intended to benefit their schools and neighbourhoods.

The leagues in Geertruidenberg and Middelburg are scheduled to begin on 30 September. Breda and Oosterhout will follow after the winter break, with schools able to register for those programmes until the end of October. The participating schools will conclude the season with final events at the end of May.

Teams will take part in between six and ten rounds of matches under NAC Street League rules. Their results will not be the only factor in the standings: bonus points can be earned for sporting conduct, while off-field community challenges will also contribute to each team’s total.

The accompanying workshops will cover subjects including healthy living, fair play, discrimination, social-media risks, peer pressure and alcohol. A financial treasure hunt at the Rat Verlegh Stadion is also planned for the annual Dutch Money Week in March. NAC says the wider programme supports schools’ citizenship and social-studies objectives by combining exercise, interaction and community participation.
