NAC Breda supporters unite in tribute after defeat by VVV-Venlo

NAC Breda’s 2-0 home defeat by VVV-Venlo was overshadowed by an emotional tribute to Mats Seuntjens and his family following the death of his newborn daughter, Celine Inaya Seuntjens Silva. After the final whistle, more than 18,000 supporters — including the visiting fans — stood alongside players and staff as thousands of lights illuminated the Rat Verlegh Stadion.

The evening also included a minute’s silence for former NAC coach Bob Maaskant, who died during the summer at the age of 88. Maaskant was described by the club as one of the figures who helped establish the celebrated tradition of an “Avondje NAC”.

VVV had earlier taken a quick lead through Edhy Zuliani, whose shot found the far corner. NAC created opportunities for Raul Paula, Mohamed Nassoh, Pepijn Reulen and Paul Gladon but could not turn their possession into an equaliser. Reulen went closest shortly after half-time, failing to convert after Rio Hillen headed a cross back into his path.

The visitors then doubled their advantage on a rapid counterattack despite NAC having much of the ball. VVV’s disciplined defence held firm through the closing stages to secure the 2-0 victory, but the result became secondary as both clubs and their supporters joined the post-match tribute.
