NAC Breda booked their place in the second round of the KNVB Cup with a hard-earned 3-1 victory over fourth-tier JOS Watergraafsmeer at Sportpark Goed Genoeg. Rick Kruys’s team were tested on Wednesday evening but ultimately did enough to progress.

Paul Gladon scored on the stroke of half-time, converting a rehearsed free-kick delivery from Mohamed Nassoh into the near area. The striker said that goal allowed NAC to enter the dressing room with a more positive feeling. JOS then had to take greater risks, and NAC’s third goal in the second half effectively settled the tie.

Kruys acknowledged that his side had struggled after making a promising start. NAC became careless in possession, allowing their hosts to threaten on the counter and build momentum. “It was a real cup tie,” the coach told NAC Breda’s official website, adding that JOS played well while his own team fell below its preferred level.

The coach also used the fixture to give opportunities to several young players. He felt their performances fluctuated during a difficult contest on an artificial pitch, while stressing that the entire team could have played better. Gladon said progression was the priority against committed amateur opposition, and Kruys is now hoping NAC receive an attractive second-round draw—preferably at home.
