NAC Breda appoint Rick Kruys as head coach on two-year deal
The former FC Volendam manager will take charge of his first training session on Wednesday before facing Jong FC Utrecht.
NAC Breda have appointed Rick Kruys as their new head coach. The 41-year-old has signed a two-season contract and will lead his first training session at the club’s B O Infra training complex in Zundert on Wednesday.
Kruys brings recent experience of winning promotion from the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. He guided FC Volendam to the division title in the 2024/25 season, securing a return to the Eredivisie. Volendam were relegated through the play-off final one season later. Before taking charge in Volendam, he also led VVV-Venlo into the play-offs.
His first game as NAC coach will come on Friday against Jong FC Utrecht. The fixture carries personal significance for Kruys, who was born in Utrecht and previously represented FC Utrecht as a player before working there as an assistant and interim head coach. His playing career also included spells with FC Volendam, Excelsior and Swedish club Malmö FF.
NAC technical director Peter Maas said the club quickly made Kruys its preferred choice from a group of candidates, pointing to his knowledge of competing for honours in the second tier. Kruys said he was proud to take the position and eager to begin working immediately with the staff and squad. “I am genuinely proud to be NAC’s coach,” he told NAC Breda Official.
