Mauro Júnior has reflected on fulfilling a family dream after making his Brazil debut during the September and October international programme. The PSV player received his first call-up from national-team coach Carlo Ancelotti and went on to appear in all three of Brazil’s friendlies.

His debut came against Australia on 25 September. Mauro, who performs several roles for PSV but is viewed as a left-back by Brazil, said the significance of the occasion fully registered only after the match, when he read messages from his wife and family. “It is very special,” he told ESPN, as reported by Voetbal International.

The 26-year-old believes he has a strong chance of remaining in Ancelotti’s plans. According to Mauro, the coach appreciates him both as a player and as a person and continues to monitor his performances. He said Ancelotti had indicated that another call-up was likely if he maintained his form and kept playing well.

Brazil are due to play further friendlies against Japan and Singapore in November, giving Mauro another potential opportunity at international level. His immediate focus returns to PSV, who face SC Heerenveen on Friday evening before meeting RB Leipzig in the Champions League during the following midweek programme.
