Matthijs de Ligt returns to Manchester United training after back injury
The Netherlands defender is progressing in his recovery but will not be available to face Hull City.
Matthijs de Ligt has returned to training with Manchester United as he continues his recovery from a back injury, according to De Telegraaf. The 27-year-old Netherlands international has been sidelined since December.
United manager Michael Carrick welcomed the defender’s progress but confirmed that he will not be ready for Saturday’s league match against Hull City. “It’s great to have him back,” Carrick said, as quoted by De Telegraaf. He added that De Ligt is in good condition and moving in the right direction.
De Ligt last appeared for United against Crystal Palace on 30 November. His injury also kept him out of the most recent World Cup with the Netherlands, extending a lengthy absence for both club and country.
The defender had increasingly shown himself back at United’s training complex through social-media posts in recent weeks. Although a date for his competitive return has not been announced, rejoining team training represents a significant step in his rehabilitation. De Ligt has made 56 official appearances for Manchester United.
