Marten de Roon set for Gasperini reunion in Rome

Marten de Roon is close to leaving Atalanta and reuniting with former coach Gian Piero Gasperini in Rome, according to Voetbal International. The midfielder is expected in the Italian capital on Sunday, although the reported deal has not yet been formally completed.
De Roon would make the move without an initial transfer fee, with VI reporting that bonuses could ultimately be worth several hundred thousand euros. Only a few final formalities are said to remain. Gasperini reportedly made the Dutchman his priority, while De Roon was also determined to join the Rome-based side.
A transfer would end De Roon’s long association with Atalanta. He first joined the Bergamo club for the 2015/16 season, spent the following campaign at Middlesbrough and returned to Atalanta in 2017. He has remained with the Italian club ever since, completing ten seasons there across his two spells.
The move would also place De Roon alongside several familiar Dutch players. Donyell Malen, with whom he played for the Netherlands at the World Cup in North America this summer, is already in Rome and has been in strong scoring form. Devyne Rensch and Anass Salah-Eddine are also there, giving De Roon further Dutch-speaking company as he prepares for the reported next stage of his career.
