KV Mechelen have approached FC Utrecht about a possible transfer for Mike Eerdhuijzen, according to Voetbal International. The 26-year-old central defender is reportedly receptive to continuing his career in Mechelen despite starting Utrecht’s last two Eredivisie matches.
The two clubs must now attempt to reach an agreement, with Utrecht technical director Jordy Zuidam and his Mechelen counterpart Tom Caluwé handling the discussions. VI reports that the Belgian side would need to pay approximately €2 million, excluding bonuses, to complete the deal.
Eerdhuijzen only joined Utrecht from Sparta Rotterdam last summer in a transfer worth around €1.2 million. He remains under contract until the summer of 2029, putting Utrecht in a strong negotiating position. Injuries have limited him to 17 appearances for the club so far.
Utrecht appear to have enough options at centre-back to absorb his potential departure. The club also recently renegotiated and extended young defender Per Kloosterboer’s contract until mid-2029. No agreement between Utrecht and Mechelen has yet been reported.
