Kasper Dolberg stays at Ajax after Midtjylland talks fall short

Ajax striker Kasper Dolberg reportedly came close to leaving Amsterdam for FC Midtjylland during the final hours of the Danish transfer window. Voetbalzone, citing Danish outlet Bold, says the 28-year-old held talks over a return to his home country on deadline day.
Negotiations intensified as the deadline approached, but Midtjylland and Dolberg were unable to reach an agreement on financial terms. Denmark’s transfer market has since closed, leaving the 56-cap international at Ajax for the time being. Bold described the discussions as “intensive negotiations”, according to Voetbalzone.
Dolberg had been one of Midtjylland’s leading targets during the summer. The Danish club had additional room to pursue a forward after Franculino joined Trabzonspor in a transfer reported to be worth at least €17 million, but that did not ultimately produce a deal for the Ajax striker.
Dolberg’s continued presence may also have affected Ajax’s own deadline-day planning. Voetbal International club reporter Lentin Goodijk said the failure to move on Dolberg, Owen Wijndal and Oliver Edvardsen played a role in Ajax not adding another midfielder, with salary space needing to be created first. No late departure materialised, however, and Dolberg remains in Amsterdam after the close of the Danish window.
