Joël Drommel returns to FC Twente on four-year contract

FC Twente have completed the signing of Joël Drommel from PSV with immediate effect. The 29-year-old goalkeeper has agreed a four-season contract running until the middle of 2030.

The move takes Drommel back to familiar surroundings. He joined Twente’s academy in 2014 and made his Eredivisie debut for the club against Ajax a year later. After playing more than 120 matches for Twente, he moved to PSV in 2021. He spent last season on loan at Sparta Rotterdam, where Twente said he recorded 11 clean sheets.

“It feels like coming home,” Drommel told FC Twente’s official website. The goalkeeper said his discussions with John van den Brom and Erik ten Hag had been positive, adding that he intends to compete for playing time. He also identified qualification for European football as the immediate objective, while expressing hope that Twente can eventually challenge for silverware.

Ten Hag described Drommel as an experienced Dutch goalkeeper suited to the club’s preferred profile, highlighting his shot-stopping, ability to operate behind a high defensive line, command of crosses and contribution in possession. Twente also said Drommel’s arrival completes the senior goalkeeping group following the addition of Remko Pasveer, the departure of Przemyslaw Tyton and the loan of Sam Karssies.
