Jerayno Schaken makes history with debut goal for Feyenoord at NEC

Jerayno Schaken marked his Feyenoord debut with a record-breaking goal in Saturday’s 3-1 Eredivisie win away to NEC Nijmegen. The 17-year-old entered shortly before the hour, replacing Gaoussou Diarra with Feyenoord leading 2-1, and needed only five minutes to score.

Schaken cut inside before finding the far top corner with his left foot via the inside of the post, completing the scoring. At 17 years and 79 days old, he became the youngest player to score on his Eredivisie debut. The appearance came after the young forward had recently trained regularly with Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s first team.

His father, former Netherlands international Ruben Schaken, said he was “still in a bubble” after watching the teenager’s breakthrough, according to FCUpdate’s account of his ESPN interview. He also revealed that Jerayno is naturally right-footed despite frequently receiving the ball, dribbling and attacking defenders with his left.

Ruben Schaken said he had pushed Feyenoord to give his son an opportunity to train with the senior squad, believing Van Bronckhorst would use him after seeing him at close quarters. However, he cautioned against declaring the youngster fully established after one appearance. While confident Jerayno is physically ready and possesses significant potential, he stressed that the family would keep him grounded following his memorable start.
