Jan Boskamp has expressed doubts over whether summer signing Nacho Ferri will succeed at Feyenoord, arguing that the striker’s qualities do not currently match the team’s attacking approach.

Feyenoord reportedly paid around €9 million to sign the 21-year-old Spaniard from KVC Westerlo. His arrival anticipated the departure of Ayase Ueda, who was subsequently sold to Lille shortly before the transfer deadline. That move left Ferri as the apparent first-choice centre-forward in Rotterdam.

Ferri made his first competitive start for Feyenoord in Saturday’s 3-1 away victory over NEC. He supplied the pass for Gjivai Zechiël’s opening goal but otherwise struggled to impose himself and was replaced by Shaqueel van Persie after an hour.

Boskamp, who lives in Belgium and watched Ferri regularly at Westerlo, believes the forward needs more service from wide areas. He told Rijnmond, as relayed by FCUpdate, that Ferri “does not fit the team” based on how he has been used so far. Boskamp said the striker scored for Westerlo when deliveries came from the flanks, something he feels Feyenoord are not providing. Although his verdict was critical, he also suggested the tactical environment — rather than Ferri alone — is contributing to the uncertain start.
