Taylor and Doekhi came in for severe criticism from the Italian press following Lazio’s defeat, with both players receiving poor ratings for their performances. As reported by VI, several newspapers raised concerns about Taylor’s physical condition and Doekhi’s work under pressure.

Corriere dello Sport awarded Taylor a five, saying he was not yet in top form and sometimes appeared disoriented in midfield. The paper also highlighted his failure to convert a stoppage-time opportunity. Doekhi received a 4.5 after losing sight of Ruocco for the goal and struggling when pressed during open play.

Il Messaggero also gave Doekhi a 4.5, arguing that the defender did not look comfortable in the side. Taylor again scored a five, with the newspaper questioning his motivation and stating that his lack of physical sharpness was visible. Leggo similarly felt Taylor had little influence despite roaming across midfield, while describing Doekhi as rusty and critical of his role in the goal.

Lazio coach Gennaro Gattuso took responsibility afterwards and apologised to the club’s supporters. “This is a huge blow,” he said, according to VI. Asked whether Lazio should respond in the transfer market, Gattuso rejected that as an immediate explanation, saying the team should not search for excuses after the defeat.
