Gorter says Lecce move offered route to becoming a more complete player
The Dutchman has reflected on leaving Jong Ajax for a different footballing environment in Italy in 2024.

Gorter believes his 2024 move from Jong Ajax to Lecce gave him an opportunity to broaden his game in a setting that may suit him better. Speaking to Voetbal International, the Dutch player explained that the Italian club had been looking for a number six when they identified him as a possible addition.
The prospect of experiencing a new country and a different style of football appealed to Gorter. He also viewed the switch as a chance to improve physically and build his stamina. That development, he told VI, “would make me a more complete player.” His decision represented a significant change after progressing within Ajax’s youth set-up and playing for the Amsterdam club’s reserve side.
Gorter made his Lecce debut last season in a cup match against AC Milan. He began that game among the substitutes and was struck by the size of the crowd, saying he had never previously seen so many people in the stands. The occasion allowed him to take in the atmosphere before getting onto the pitch.
Since then, he has accumulated more playing time and also scored a goal, despite acknowledging that finding the net is not normally a regular part of his game. Gorter said his new circumstances have also brought him into contact with established Dutch players, including Donyell Malen and Marten de Roon.
