Frenkie de Jong has returned to training as he works towards his first Barcelona appearance of the season. The midfielder posted photographs on Instagram showing him exercising both with and without the ball, offering an encouraging sign in his recovery from a knee problem.

De Jong sustained the injury during the World Cup and has not yet featured for Barcelona this season. His most recent match came for the Netherlands against Morocco on 30 June, when Oranje were eliminated in the round of 32 following a penalty shootout. The midfielder was already experiencing discomfort in his knee before playing in that game.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick had previously indicated that De Jong might be available again after the international break. According to Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo, the current plan is for the Dutchman to rejoin group training after the weekend. He would then be able to build towards his first competitive minutes of the campaign.

No specific comeback match has been identified, so his exact return date remains uncertain. However, the combination of De Jong’s individual work and the reported plan to reintegrate him into team sessions suggests that his rehabilitation has entered a more advanced phase.
