Fortuna Sittard earned a 3-1 home victory over newly promoted SC Cambuur after making a rapid start to the Eredivisie contest. Philip Brittijn and Lequincio Zeefuik both scored inside the opening 15 minutes, giving the hosts an early two-goal cushion.

Cambuur responded in the 22nd minute through Rafik El Arguioui, reducing the deficit and keeping the visitors in the match. They subsequently had opportunities to draw level, but Fortuna goalkeeper Mattijs Branderhorst protected his side’s narrow advantage.

Ismaël Baouf went close midway through the second half but could not beat Branderhorst. Nicolas Binder was also denied by the Fortuna keeper during the closing stages as Cambuur pushed for an equaliser.

Instead, Shiloh ’t Zand completed the scoring in stoppage time to secure the points for Fortuna. The midfielder is on loan at the Sittard club from Feyenoord. The result followed Fortuna’s 2-2 draw away to PSV in their previous match, while Cambuur had begun their return to the Eredivisie with a 4-0 home defeat against Excelsior.
