Five people were injured after fireworks were set off in a toilet in the away section during half-time of Saturday afternoon’s match between Vitesse and NAC Breda. NAC said the injured parties were three supporters and two stewards.

Police arrested a suspect in connection with the firework incident. According to the club’s statement, that person remained in custody. NAC have contacted those who were hurt and said aftercare would be made available where necessary.

Further incidents involving groups of supporters took place after the match and required police intervention. NAC are examining that disorder together with Vitesse and the local authorities. The Breda club did not provide further details about the nature of those confrontations or identify the groups involved.

General director Remco Oversier said NAC would seek the strongest possible punishment for the person responsible for the fireworks, subject to the outcome of the investigation. He also strongly condemned the other incidents. The club is working with the security services to establish what happened and says it will take appropriate measures where required. NAC’s statement did not announce any immediate sanctions while the investigations remain under way.
