FC Utrecht sign former Ajax defender Jakov Medic on loan
The 27-year-old Croatian returns to the Netherlands after Utrecht agreed a loan deal with Norwich City that includes an option to buy.
FC Utrecht have signed Jakov Medic from Norwich City on loan, with an option to make the move permanent. The agreement brings the 27-year-old defender back to the Netherlands following his brief spell with Ajax.
Medic joined Ajax from FC St. Pauli for the 2023/24 season. He marked his debut against Heracles Almelo with a spectacular goal, but subsequently made only five more league appearances and was allowed to leave after one year.
Ajax initially sent the Croatian defender on loan to VfL Bochum before selling him to Norwich. His latest move now gives him another opportunity in Dutch football, this time with Utrecht.
Medic said he was pleased by the move and intends to show supporters the passion with which he plays. In comments published on Utrecht’s club channels and carried by VI, he also recalled the atmosphere created by the club’s fans from a previous visit, despite having remained on the bench for that match. He said he hopes to share many memorable moments with the Utrecht support.
