FC Utrecht have signed Sem van Duijn on loan from AZ, with the agreement including an option to make the transfer permanent. According to VI, that purchase clause is worth between €1 million and €1.5 million. AZ announced the forward’s move to Utrecht on Friday.

Van Duijn joined AZ from Quick Boys in 2024 and subsequently played for Jong AZ. He spent the first half of 2026 on loan at Telstar, where he worked under current Utrecht coach Anthony Correia. That prior relationship could help the striker as he settles into his new surroundings.

The 21-year-old now enters a competitive centre-forward department in Utrecht. Artem Stepanov is among the leading options, while Correia can also call upon David Min and Noah Ohio. However, Ohio is injured and is expected to remain unavailable for the rest of the calendar year, creating an opening for additional attacking cover.

Van Duijn leaves AZ having made two senior appearances for the Alkmaar club, both in the Europa League in 2025. He played one minute against Galatasaray and nine minutes against Tottenham Hotspur. His latest loan gives him the opportunity to add more first-team football while allowing Utrecht to assess him before deciding whether to activate the purchase option.
