FC Twente switch focus to Eredivisie opener at Heerenveen

FC Twente begin their 2026/27 Eredivisie campaign away to SC Heerenveen on Sunday, with kick-off scheduled for 16:45 at the Abe Lenstra Stadion. The fixture follows a busy European period for Twente, who recorded a 6-0 victory over DAC in the first leg of their Conference League third qualifying-round tie on Thursday.

Head coach John van den Brom reported that his squad had come through that match in good physical condition. Although some players had minor complaints in the immediate aftermath, he described those issues as normal and said Twente had an almost fully fit group available before their final training session.

The trip could provide a first taste of Eredivisie action with Twente for new arrivals Wout Weghorst, Joël Drommel, Aske Adelgaard and Krzysztof Kurowski. Naci Ünüvar and Younes Taha are also back with the squad after loan spells. Van den Brom said he was pleased with how the additions had settled, while acknowledging that building the desired style and improving coordination would take time.

Van den Brom expects a difficult opening assignment against a Heerenveen side coached by Robin Veldman. He highlighted Jacob Trenskow, Dylan Vente and Ringo Meerveld among the hosts’ individual threats and told FC Twente’s official website: “We must be alert from the first whistle.” Twente supporters are not permitted to attend the game.
