FC Twente hit DAC for six to take command of Conference League tie

FC Twente took a major step towards the final round of Conference League qualifying with a 6-0 home victory over Slovakian side DAC 1904. John van den Brom’s team delivered an emphatic response after their Europa League qualifying elimination by Ferencváros.

Twente needed only seven minutes to open the scoring, with Daan Rots heading in from close range. Marko Pjaca doubled the advantage four minutes later through a long-range strike, assisted by Wout Weghorst. The hosts then pulled away after the interval: Daouda Weidmann made it 3-0 in the 49th minute before Max Bruns converted at the far post from Weidmann’s free-kick.

Ramiz Zerrouki added the fifth with a shot from outside the penalty area after a corner fell his way. Robin Pröpper completed the scoring with a header 15 minutes from time. Twente subsequently pushed for a seventh, which would have matched the club’s record European win — a 7-0 victory over Panachaiki in 1973 — but DAC avoided further damage.

Lars Unnerstall started in goal and made several saves, while recent arrival Joël Drommel was named among the substitutes for the first time since returning from PSV. Weghorst suffered a head wound from an opponent’s elbow shortly before half-time but continued after treatment. The return leg will be played in Slovakia next Thursday at 19:00; the winners are set to face Dynamo Kyiv or Qarabag in the final qualifying round.
