Excelsior sign Alireza Jahanbakhsh on one-year contract

Excelsior have added Alireza Jahanbakhsh to their squad for the new Eredivisie season. The Rotterdam club have agreed a one-year contract with the 32-year-old winger, who was available on a free transfer following his departure from Belgian side Dender.

Jahanbakhsh brings extensive experience of Dutch football to Woudestein. He has previously represented NEC, AZ Alkmaar, Feyenoord and SC Heerenveen in the Eredivisie. The Iran international also featured at the World Cup staged in the United States, Canada and Mexico before completing his move to Excelsior.

The winger already has strong ties to the city, having lived in Rotterdam for five years. “Rotterdam has a special place in my heart,” he said on Excelsior’s website, as reported by De Telegraaf. Jahanbakhsh added that he feels at home in the city and promised to give everything for his new club, with the aim of contributing goals and assists.

He joins an Excelsior side that made an emphatic start to the campaign. The Kralingen club won 4-0 away to SC Cambuur on Friday and finished the opening round at the top of the Eredivisie table. Jahanbakhsh will now provide another experienced attacking option as Excelsior look to build on that early momentum.
