Eredivisie newcomers make historically poor start to 2026/27 season
ADO Den Haag, SC Cambuur and Willem II have all lost their opening two matches, combining for the worst goal difference recorded by a promoted group at this stage.

The three promoted clubs have endured a historically difficult opening to the 2026/27 Eredivisie season. ADO Den Haag, SC Cambuur and Willem II are all without a point after two rounds and have produced a combined goal difference of minus 17.
ADO, last season’s Keuken Kampioen Divisie champions, began with a 2-0 defeat by AZ before losing 4-1 to FC Groningen. Cambuur, who finished second in the second tier, were beaten 4-0 by Excelsior and then went down 3-1 against Fortuna Sittard.
Willem II have suffered matching 4-1 defeats, first against Go Ahead Eagles and then against NEC Nijmegen. Across the six matches, the newcomers have scored only four goals while conceding 21.
According to VI, this is only the third Eredivisie season in which the promoted sides have collectively taken no points from the first two rounds. De Graafschap and Fortuna Sittard had a combined goal difference of minus eight in 1995/96, while sole newcomer MVV also stood at minus eight after two games in 1997/98. The current trio’s minus-17 return is therefore markedly worse than the previous winless starts.
