Karim El Ahmadi has advised Lutsharel Geertruida not to join Ajax amid reports linking the RB Leipzig defender with a return to the Netherlands. Geertruida has been associated with PSV for several weeks, while Ajax are also reported to have made an enquiry about the 26-year-old.

Speaking on Voetbalpraat, former Feyenoord captain El Ahmadi said Geertruida would improve any of the Eredivisie’s leading three clubs. However, he questioned whether a player developed by Feyenoord and later made captain in Rotterdam would be willing to sign for their Amsterdam rivals.

“I think Ajax is just a step too far,” El Ahmadi said, as quoted by Voetbalzone. He suggested PSV would be a more realistic destination and said he would choose Eindhoven over Amsterdam if he were in Geertruida’s position. Voetbalzone noted that PSV can offer Champions League football, while Ajax still need to qualify for the Conference League.

Hedwiges Maduro urged caution over the transfer talk. The former Almere City coach argued that reports of conversations can exaggerate the substance of preliminary contact, with an enquiry not necessarily indicating advanced negotiations. He also suggested that confirmation of talks by a player’s representatives could encourage interest from other clubs. No agreement with Ajax or PSV has been reported.
