Dutch prospect Safouane Benzahra has reached a verbal agreement with AS Monaco over a contract running until the summer of 2029, according to De Telegraaf. The Breda-born 18-year-old recently attracted attention after making his Ligue 1 debut as a substitute in Monaco’s 2-1 away win over Paris Saint-Germain.
Benzahra joined the NAC Breda academy from De Baronie in 2018, shortly before his tenth birthday. Capable of playing as a left-sided midfielder, attacking midfielder or left winger, he moved to Monaco in the summer of 2025 after emerging as one of NAC’s notable youth players.
He registered eight goals and seven assists in 18 appearances for Monaco’s under-19 side. His first senior outing came with a one-minute appearance away to Gornik Zabrze, before he played 26 minutes as a substitute in the return leg of the clubs’ Conference League qualifying tie. His league debut then followed against PSG.
Benzahra’s international future also remains open. He has played three times for Morocco at under-18 level and has received an invitation from Morocco Under-20. However, De Telegraaf reports that he is also firmly on the KNVB’s radar, with several conversations said to have taken place between the Dutch association and the player.
