Dick Schreuder fumes over Emre Mor delay before NEC match-winner

NEC coach Dick Schreuder admitted losing his patience with Emre Mor despite the substitute going on to score the winner in a 2-1 Champions League qualifying victory over Olympiakos at the Goffertstadion.

Mor began the game on the bench but was called upon during an injury-disrupted first half, replacing Sami Ouaissa. His introduction did not go smoothly: the attacker needed two minutes and 49 seconds to enter the field because he could not remove an earring.

Mor later explained that he wears the jewellery because it helps him sleep and had expected to be allowed to cover it with tape, as he had done the previous week. Instead, he eventually pulled it out, leaving his ear bleeding. Schreuder became visibly angry on the touchline as NEC temporarily continued without the replacement.

Speaking to Ziggo Sport after the match, Schreuder said he came close to sending Mor back to the bench. “At this level, this is of course terrible,” he said, as reported by Voetbalzone. The coach acknowledged that his own reaction may have been excessive, but stressed that NEC must handle such situations better. Mor ultimately repaired some of the damage by scoring the decisive goal and securing the 2-1 win.
