Danish press hails Tolu after Ajax dismantle Midtjylland
Ajax’s 6-1 Conference League victory prompted fierce criticism of Midtjylland and glowing reviews for the Amsterdam side’s imposing striker.

Ajax’s emphatic 6-1 win at FC Midtjylland has drawn sharply contrasting reactions from the Danish press. The hosts were condemned for their second-half collapse in the Conference League, while Ajax striker Tolu earned praise for his decisive physical presence.
Midtjylland briefly recovered from falling behind when Friday Etim equalised in the 28th minute. Their position deteriorated after Kjell Wätjen, who had already been booked, was sent off for bringing down Abdellah Ouazane. Ajax then scored five times after the interval against the ten-man hosts.
Tipsbladet, as cited by Voetbalzone, described the result as a “humiliation” and labelled Wätjen’s dismissal disastrous. Goalkeeper Nordin Bakker was also criticised, particularly for his part in Ajax’s sixth goal, although the assessment acknowledged that he received little protection from his defence. Midtjylland remain without a victory in the Conference League’s league phase.
Tolu received the strongest praise on the Ajax side. The 1.97-metre forward was portrayed as a constant threat whom Midtjylland could not contain, especially after half-time. Bold said the scoreline eventually ran completely out of control and highlighted Ajax’s ruthlessness following the red card. Oscar Gloukh made it 5-1 with around 15 minutes remaining before the visitors added their final goal.
