Corinthians have dismissed Diniz following a 2-1 defeat away to Internacional, their seventh consecutive loss. The former Brazil national-team coach had held the position since April, but the latest setback left Memphis Depay’s side still fighting against relegation.
Former Argentina international Ramón Díaz is being mentioned by Brazilian media as a possible successor. The 67-year-old has already coached Corinthians during the 2024/25 season, although the reporting does not indicate that a return has been confirmed.
Corinthians had opportunities to take something from the Internacional match, hitting the post twice. Memphis was among the players denied by the woodwork, while André’s late headed goal arrived too late to rescue a result. With nine rounds remaining, Corinthians next face second-placed Palmeiras in Sunday’s derby as they seek an immediate response.
Memphis is still waiting for his first Corinthians goal since returning from the World Cup. Injury problems have contributed to a drought in the Brazilian league stretching back to March. The 32-year-old, the Netherlands’ all-time leading scorer, extended his Corinthians contract in August but was omitted by new Oranje coach Xavi during the latest international period. The coach nevertheless left open the possibility of a future recall.
