Seven home fans were injured after fireworks from the away section landed among supporters during Cambuur’s match against Feyenoord.
A 41-year-old Cambuur supporter has suffered permanent hearing damage following a fireworks incident during the club’s home match against Feyenoord, according to FCUpdate. The fan’s hearing is now said to be comparable to that of a 70-year-old.
Seven supporters were injured when fireworks launched from the away section landed in home areas of the stadium. Cambuur general director Jesse Bergsma disclosed the extent of the injuries before the subsequent home fixture against FC Twente. The club also held an aftercare meeting for those affected, whose injuries ranged from minor wounds to lasting hearing loss.
Feyenoord have identified several dozen people believed to have been responsible for the disorder. Those individuals have immediately lost their away-match privileges and received local bans preventing them from entering De Kuip. The Rotterdam club have also passed their names to the KNVB and requested nationwide stadium bans.
Cambuur have filed a formal police complaint over the incident. Investigators are examining camera footage as they seek to identify those responsible and determine whether criminal prosecutions can follow.
