Brian Brobbey signs new Sunderland contract until 2031
The former Ajax striker has committed his long-term future to Sunderland after scoring three Premier League goals so far this season.
Brian Brobbey has signed a new Sunderland contract running until the summer of 2031. The Netherlands striker agreed the long-term deal under sporting director Florent Ghisolfi, extending his stay with the Premier League club after arriving from Ajax in September 2025.
Sunderland paid €20 million for Brobbey, with bonuses potentially taking the transfer fee to €25 million. His Ajax contract had been due to expire in 2027. Since moving to England, the forward has recorded 10 goals in 40 appearances across all competitions and finished the 2025/26 campaign as Sunderland’s leading league scorer with seven.
Brobbey has added three goals in seven Premier League matches this season, playing 557 minutes. All three came in the same game: a hat-trick against Manchester City in September, although Sunderland were beaten 5-3.
The 24-year-old has also featured for the Netherlands in recent months. After being selected for the World Cup squad in May, he scored twice in his first start at the tournament as Oranje defeated Sweden 5-1 in the group stage. He subsequently made further international appearances in the UEFA Nations League in September. Discussing his new Sunderland agreement, Brobbey told the club’s website that the confidence shown by the club, his team-mates and the coaching staff “means a lot” to him.
