PSV responded to their disappointing Eredivisie start against Fortuna Sittard by securing a narrow victory away to Excelsior on Saturday. Peter Bosz said he was not particularly worried about another late equaliser, despite Excelsior making it 1-1, because his side had largely controlled proceedings up to that point.
The PSV coach was much happier with the second-half display, praising his players’ energy and the number of chances they created. Bosz’s main complaint was their finishing: he felt a 5-1 or 6-1 scoreline in PSV’s favour would not have been unreasonable given the opportunities they produced.
Joey Veerman earned particular praise for his first-half performance. Bosz said the midfielder consistently demanded possession and worked effectively with Sano after the substitute entered the game. By contrast, the coach admitted that several other PSV players had been “downright poor” before the break, although he declined to identify them, as quoted by Voetbal International.
Asked about reported interest from Borussia Dortmund in Veerman, Bosz said he would welcome such an opportunity for the player because of his own positive experience with the German club. However, he stressed that he had no knowledge of any potential move. Bosz was also pleased to have Sergiño Dest available again, highlighting the full-back’s ability to beat an opponent and immediately create a numerical advantage. PSV midfielder Guus Til, meanwhile, backed Excelsior to collect plenty of points, praising their approach, energy and persistence.
