Bjorn Meijer joins Sampdoria on four-year deal
The Dutch left-back has left Club Brugge for Serie B after a proposed move to Feyenoord collapsed last year.
Bjorn Meijer has traded Club Brugge for Sampdoria, signing a four-year contract with the Serie B club. The Dutch left-back opted to move after being unable to count on a regular starting place in Belgium, despite making 40 appearances for Brugge across all competitions last season.
The transfer comes a year after Meijer was close to joining Feyenoord. The Rotterdam club had agreed a fee of around €5 million with Brugge, but withdrew from the deal following his medical examination because he would not have been immediately available for full involvement. Feyenoord ultimately recruited Jordan Bos from Westerlo as their new left-back instead.
Meijer leaves Brugge with 145 appearances in all competitions since arriving from FC Groningen in 2022. He scored eight goals and supplied 17 assists during that spell, while also winning two league titles and the Croky Cup. His switch to Sampdoria now gives him the opportunity to seek more regular football in Italy’s second tier.
